Mr. Leonard has more than 40 years’ experience as an investment banker and lawyer advising high-growth technology companies. He is currently focused on mergers and acquisitions in the Enterprise Software and Security sectors.
Prior to joining Signal Hill, Mr. Leonard was a partner at Seven Hills Partners and a Managing Director at Broadview International. From 1971 to 1997, Mr. Leonard was an Associate and then Partner at the San Francisco law firm of Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison where he co-founded and led its Palo Alto Office and Business and Technology Group.
Mr. Leonard earned a J.D. from Stanford Law School and a B.A. in Philosophy from Yale University. He was an A-6A Intruder pilot in the U.S. Navy and served as Chairman of the San Francisco Fleet Week Committee for 14 years, producing the annual San Francisco Fleet Week event featuring the Blue Angels Flight Demonstration Team.
Notable transactions include: twenty two acquisitions as lead outside counsel for Cisco Systems, pro bono legal representation of the investor group which purchased the San Francisco Giants in 1993, the sale of Oblix to Oracle, the sale of a division of Cryptography Research Corporation to Macrovision followed by the sale of the remainder of CRI to Rambus for $342 million, the sales of Southwall Technology to Solutia, Hit Software to Backoffice Associates, Newgate Internet to iCrossing and the divestitures of IRI’s Apollo software business and of Intuit’s American Fundware division.
